Kohawks earn national
academic honors
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - After
placing in the top five at the NCAA Championships
for the first time in school history, the Kohawk wrestling
team has earned another top five national finish.
This time the honor comes in the classroom and not
on the wrestling mat.
Coe has been honored as
a Top 25 Scholar Team by the National Wrestling Coaches
Association (NWCA). Coe finished third with a 3.4813
cumulative team GPA. Williams College and Olivet College
ranked above the Kohawks. Coe is the highest placed
team in the nation between the NCAA Championship placing
and NWCA Scholar Top 25.
Along with a top five team
finish, four Kohawks were named NWCA Scholar Athletes.
Business majors Tyler Burkle (Coggon,
Iowa/North Linn) and Greg Lalla (Iowa
City, Iowa/City), along with physics major Rob
Kramer (Swisher, Iowa/Prairie) and Education
major Jared Carder (Williamsburg,
Iowa/Williamsburg) all earned 3.2 or higher GPA's
to make the list. All Four Kohawks will return to
the team next year, with them three being sophomores
and Lalla a junior.
Burkle, whom became Coe's
first wrestling National Champion, had the ninth highest
GPA at 3.8515 of the 102 honored as Scholar All-Americans.
