Kohawks fall to college wrestling's top program

IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Coe wrestling team faced their biggest challenge in the 53 year history of Kohawk wrestling Thursday night as they squared off against the University of Iowa.

The 12th ranked NCAA Division III Kohawks were no match for the 4th ranked NCAA Division I Hawkeyes as they improved to 4-0 on the year with the 50-0 victory. It was the first loss of the season for Coe, as they dropped to 6-1 on the season.

The Hawkeyes jumped on Coe quickly as Charlie Falck raced to an 8-2 lead after the first period in his 125 pound match against Coe's Brian Clement. Falck won by technical fall, 21-6.

Coe's closest match of the night came from Greg Lalla at 184 pounds. Lalla, unranked in Division III, lost a hard fought match to 13th ranked Phillip Keddy 13-7.

The Kohawks return to action Saturday as they travel to Wartburg for the Dick Walker Invitational. Wrestling gets underway at 9 a.m.
