Schnell, Rader qualify for NCAA Indoor National Championships

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa–Freshman Ashley Schnell (Lincoln, Neb./North Star) and senior Holly Rader (Sumner, Iowa/Sumner) have qualified for the 2008 NCAA Indoor National Championships. Schnell will run in the 800-Meter Open, while Rader will participate in the Weight Throw.

Schnell ran a 2:14.43 800-meter at the Iowa Hawkeye Open on January 19. Schnell won the race, while beating out five NCAA Division I runners. The 800-Meter preliminaries will be ran at 6:55 p.m. Friday night.

Rader earned a spot at nationals with a fourth place finish at the Iowa Conference Championships. The top two throws at the IIAC Finals earned automatic berths to the NCAA's, while the third place thrower and Rader provisionally qualified. Rader's throw of 16.6 meters was her top throw of the season. The Weight Throw is the first scheduled event for the NCAA Championships on Friday, which kick off at 12:30 p.m.
