Anciaux wins
Javelin Throw at IIAC Championships
WAVERLY, Iowa – Coe crowned
one champion on day one of the Iowa Conference Outdoor Track
and Field Championships Friday as freshman Sarah
Anciaux (Iowa City, Iowa/City) won the Javelin
Throw. Her toss of 123' 2" was over three feet farther
than Ellen Thys' of Loras. In other finals action, Anciaux
provisionally qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships
in the Discus with a throw of 139' 10". Her throw was
good enough for a third place finish.
Coe's Lane Moser
(Wapello, Iowa/Wapello) finished fifth in the 10,000-meter
run in a time of 32:23.6.
In other preliminary events,
freshman Ashley Schnell (Lincoln, Neb./North
Star) had the top qualifying time in the 800-Meter Run with
a time of 2:15.17. Freshman Justin Janss
(Belle Plaine, Iowa/Belle Plaine) qualified for the finals
with a time of 50.12 in the 400-Meter Dash. In other men's
action, junior Kyle Brockmeyer (Cedar Rapids,
Iowa/Kennedy) used a time of 15.10 in the 110-Meter Hurdles
to qualify for the finals. In the 400-Meter Hurdles, senior
Sean Bennett (Clinton, Iowa/Clinton) and
junior Vance Rudolph (Ft. Collins, Colo./Rocky
Mountain) used times of 55.97 and 56.29 to qualify for tomorrow's
final event.
After day one, Coe's women sit
in seventh place with 16 points while the men are in ninth
place with four points. Action resumes tomorrow at 10 a.m.
at Wartburg's Walston Hoover Stadium.
