Head Coach
Michael Warta
Michael E. Warta has been named
the head men's and women's track and field coach at
Coe College, announced Tuesday by Director of Athletics
John Chandler.
"We are excited to have Michael
on our athletics staff," said Chandler. "He
will bring a great deal of knowledge and enthusiasm
to our track and field programs."
Warta comes to Coe after spending the
past three years as head track and field coach at
Clarke College in Dubuque. He also served as head
cross country coach and director of strength and conditioning
during his time at Clarke. Warta previously had stints
at Lynchburg College and Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
"Michael has been an integral part
of many successful programs at all levels of competition,"
said Chandler. "We look forward to the leadership
and guidance he will provide our student-athletes."
Warta has coached 11 individual NCAA
Division III All-Americans and five All-American relay
teams. As an athlete himself, he qualified for six
NCAA Division III Championships and was a four-time
All-American.
Nathan is entering his fifth year
as throws coach for the Coe track and field team.
He attended college at Rose-Hulman Institute where
he was a two-time conference champion in the hammer
throw and currently holds the school records for the
hammer and weight throw. Nathan qualified for nationals
in both the weight and the hammer and was all-American
in the hammer his senior year.
Nathan is originally from Churdan, Iowa where he attended
Paton-Churdan High School. He and his wife, Kari,
are currently living in Cedar Rapids.
Graduate Assistant
Coach Brian Flynn
As a Lynchburg College Hornet,
Brian Flynn played a prominent role on both the track
and the cross country teams.
Flynn was a 2003 National Qualifier on top of being
a two-time All-Region performer and a four-time All-Conference
runner in Cross Country. Flynn was also an impressive
distance runner on the Hornets track team, earning
five Old Dominion Athletic Conference individual championships
and 12 All-Conference titles.
By the time Flynn graduated from Lynchburg College
in 2005, he had been a member of eight conference
championship track teams and two conference championship
cross country teams.
This is Flynn’s second-year as a graduate assistant
coach for the Kohawk track teams.
