Kohawks defeat Grinnell in first
round of NCAA Tourney
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe women's
tennis team used two wins each from junior Molly
Fiala (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson) and
freshman Hannah Jensen (Iowa City,
Iowa/West) to advance to the second round of the NCAA
Women's Tennis Tournament. Fiala teamed with Andrea
Schupbach (Waterloo, Iowa/Columbus) at number
one doubles, while Jensen teamed with sophomore Hillary
Allen (Ft. Collins, Colo./Ft. Collins) at
number two doubles.
Freshman Katy Delagardelle
(Waterloo, Iowa/Columbus) and sophomore Megan
Fiala (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson) won
8-5 at number three doubles to put the Kohawks up
3-0 heading into singles play.
The Kohawks led in all other singles
matches before play was halted as the match was completed
with Coe's wins at number one and two singles.
Coe will return to action Friday as
they play top-seeded Wheaton at 9 a.m. The two teams
have met twice earlier this year, with Wheaton winning
the first match 6-3 in Orlando, Fla. Coe won the second
meeting 5-4 at the Midwest Invitational.
