Eight Kohawks earn All-Region
and All-Conference honors
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - A total of eight
different Coe softball players earned NFCA All-Midwest
Region honors or All-Iowa Conference honors as both
were announced on Tuesday. The Kohawks had a league-best
six members on the All-Iowa Conference team, led by
junior Ashley Leonard (Cedar Rapids,
Iowa/Kennedy) and freshman Krystal Kopp
(Solon, Iowa/Solon), as both were first team selections.
Five players were named to the NFCA
All-Midwest Region team, with Leonard again being
a first team selection. After being named a first
team selection, she is eligible to be on the All-American
team announced later this week.
Junior Ellie Schultz
(Clayton, Iowa/Clayton Ridge), sophomore Abby
Wedemeier (Maynard, Iowa/West Central), Chelsea
Zaugg (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) and Danielle
Leavens (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City)
were all Second Team All-Iowa Conference selections.
Joining Leonard on the NFCA All-Midwest
Region teams were Schultz and junior Sonja
Schwenker (Burlington, Iowa/Burlington) on
the second team, while Leavens and senior April
Kalmes (Springville, Iowa/Springville) were
third team selections.
The Kohawks will take their 31-14 record
into this week's NCAA Regional Tournament. Coe will
face Wisconsin-Whitewater at 2 p.m. on Thursday in
Rock Island, Ill.
