Kohawks pick
up fourth-straight win in 69-59 win over Simpson
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Four Kohawks,
including three seniors, scored in double-figures
to lead Coe to a 69-59 win over Simpson Wednesday
night at Eby Fieldhouse. All five seniors started
in the Kohawks fourth-straight win. The victory gives
the Kohawks the third seed in next week's Iowa Conference
Tournament.
Simpson jumped out to a 20-10 lead in
the game's first seven minutes, but the Kohawks quickly
answered back with a 13-4 run over the next 2:39 to
make it a one point game. The Kohawks closed the first
half on a 10-4 run to take a seven point lead into
the locker room.
The second half was another tale of
runs, as the Storm opened the half on an 11-4 run
to tie the game, but once again the Kohawks answered
with a 9-1 run to take an eight point lead.
Coe was held without a field goal for
the last 5:41 of the game, but was able to hit seven
free throw attempts to hold onto for a 10 point win.
Senior Kyle Kuenstling
(Dunkerton, Iowa/Dunkerton) led the Kohawks with 15
points and seven rebounds. Fellow seniors Rob
Hanna (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Linn-Mar) and Brian
Brungard (Dunkerton, Iowa/Dunkerton) added
13 and 10 points respectively. Brungard finished with
six rebounds, while Hanna had a game-high four assists.
Junior Christian Parent (Littleton,
Colo./Littleton) added 10 points off the bench.
Senior Kale Petersen
(DeWitt, Iowa/Central Clinton) added six rebounds
and senior Chris Kehe (Tripoli, Iowa/Tripoli)
had 3 points in their regular season home finales.
The Kohawks will return to action Tuesday
night as they host a first round Iowa Conference game.
Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. at Eby Fieldhouse.
