Kohawks pick up 90th all-time win over rival Rams

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa. - In their final home game of the season, the Kohawks picked up a much needed win. The 2-1 final gave Coe its 90th all-time win over Linn County rival Cornell.

Sophomore Ryan Nicholson (Downers Grove, Ill./North) picked up his fifth win of the year as Coe improved to 16-20 overall, 6-15 in the Iowa Conference. Nicholson struck out six and allowed just the one run, a fifth inning home run by Kyle Noesen for the Rams. Freshman Alec Lewis (Mesa, Ariz./Red Mountain) earned his first save of the season, as he struck out all three batters he faced in the ninth inning.

Freshman Nick Robertson (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista) and senior Josh Schauf (Maquoketa, Iowa/Maquoketa) had two hits to lead the Kohawk offense. Both of Robertson's hits were for extra bags, as he had a double and a triple.

The Kohawks return to action Friday as they travel to Luther for a nine-inning game starting at 3 p.m. The two teams will also play a doubleheader Saturday afternoon in Decorah. Coe needs two more wins to earn a spot in the Iowa Conference tournament.
