Defining Moment: The Campaign for Coe

Capital Projects

Coe’s residential campus helps nurture young leaders by offering an environment that fosters collaboration, friendship, and individual success. Coe’s physical environment compliments and furthers in every way the liberal arts experience by providing an attractive, safe place to live and study while utilizing the most effective technologies for learning. With the near completion of the East Campus, the footprint of the college has nearly doubled, affording additional housing, green spaces and increasing the appeal of the campus to the community and to students and their families. However, several initiatives for advancing the campus remain of critical importance:

  • McCabe Hall: Advances in workplace technologies and the demand for additional academic space have created a need to move the current administrative offices. Thus, the college plans the construction of a new 10,000-square-foot administrative office building that will house the offices of the President, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Advancement, and Public Relations. To be named in honor of the late Dr. Joseph E. McCabe, Coe’s 11th president, this attractive brick building will echo the design of the Nassif Admissions House, and will in turn free up the third and fourth floors of Stuart Hall for additional “technological” smart classrooms and faculty offices.

  • Peterson Hall: With the need to remain on the cutting edge of scientific technology and to maintain its reputation as a leader in undergraduate student-faculty research, the sciences will shortly require additional space for laboratory equipment.

  • Eby Fieldhouse: Additional gym space for open recreational opportunities, intramurals and athletics is needed to meet the needs of students, faculty and staff. With one gym floor available for intercollegiate volleyball and basketball, students often must wait until 9 p.m. or later for intramurals or other activities. An expansion of Eby Fieldhouse to the north with additional gym space and renovating the existing locker and equipment rooms, coupled with the recently completed fitness center in lower Eby, would create a facility that would not only meet the needs of the current Coe community but also serve as a strong attraction to prospective students.

  • Gage Union: A growing number of student groups, activities and organizations continue to place increased demands on this building. An undeniable facet of a liberal arts education is the participation in student activities and frequent interaction with peer students. A complete renovation of Gage Union will create – for the first time in Coe’s history – a true student union that is a focal point for Coe’s vibrant campus life.

Significant donor recognition opportunities are available for each of the above projects. For more details, please contact:
