In addition, Washington Term alumni
from 1964-1971 will gather for a reunion and the Kappa
Delta sorority will also return to
Coe. The Phi Taus are also planning a reunion.
Special Activities
Welcome Back Buffet
The buffet is a relaxed
opportunity to visit with classmates and alumni for your first
event of the weekend. You'll enjoy the Clark Alumni House
garden.
Heritage Club Dinner (invitation only)
The annual Heritage Club Dinner honors alumni and friends of
the college who have made provisions to support the college
through their financial plans. For more information, contact
Kelly Allen, Director of the Heritage Club, at 319/399-8592.
Mini College Classes
- "1968, Forty Years Later: The Cold War, Global Protest
and the Prague Spring" Derek Buckaloo, assistant professor
of history, will set the Cold War context in which the "global
disruption" of
1968 took place, as well as discuss one of the most prominent
examples of that disruption, the "Prague Spring" in
Czechoslovakia.
- "1968, Forty Years Later: Political Turmoil in the
U.S." Allen
Fisher, Stead Family Professor of Sociology, will examine political
turmoil in the U.S., including Lyndon Johnson's decision
not to seek re-election, Eugene McCarthy's and Robert
Kennedy's quests for
the Democratic nomination for president, student demonstrations
against the war in Vietnam, the assassinations of Martin Luther
King, Jr. and Robert Kennedy, racial violence in more than
130 cities, and a resurgent political conservatism revealed
by the election of Richard Nixon.
- "Who's in the Coe Archives?" Jill
Jack, Head of Reference and Assistant Professor, will explore
Coe's past and
the incredible students and faculty who have made Coe what
it is today. Learn what is involved in maintaining and preserving
Coe's history...your history.
- “Managing an American Embassy in Today’s
Environment", James Derrick '69 will
talk about the current situation in American embassies.
What are the management challenges faced by American Embassies
today in the post 9/11 environment? Specific issues
include security, visa issuance, human resources and facilities.
- "A Brief Visit to the National
Air & Space Museum," Lloyd "Bill"
Brown '58 invites you to tour this national museum. Travel to the Smithsonian
National Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C. without ever
leaving the Midwest. Bill will show slides of some of the airplanes
on display in the museum. No need to pack a bag or wait in
a long line. Join him for a tour in the comfort of Hickok Hall
on Coe's campus.
Coe Reunion Best Shot Round of Golf
Enjoy
golf at St. Andrew's
Golf Course. Andy Molison '03 will welcome
you to the course and get you started. Sign up on the registration
form for 9 or 18-holes of fun on the greens. Reservations are
due by Fri., May 23.
Alumni
Barbeque
Enjoy refreshments, good food and socializing with
Coe alumni while The
Silvertones, including Ralph LaCombe '50, Jack
Sedlacek '61 and director, Alan Lawrence,
director and teaching artist in music, will perform during the
social hour and barbecue. You may even decide to cut a rug.
Class Luncheons and Class Photos
The Golden Reunion Luncheon
will honor the Classes of '28, '33, '38, '43, '48,
'53 and '58.
Pre-1958 class photos will begin at approximately 1:15 p.m.
Doug Gracey '58 will emcee the Golden
Reunion Luncheon program. The Class of 1958 class photo will
be taken at approximately 2 p.m. The Class of '68 Luncheon
will begin with their class photograph at noon. Class photos
will be taken by George Henry '49.
President's
Reception and Book Signings
President James and Linnie Phifer
invite you to a reception honoring the reunion classes and guests
in Perrine Gallery, Stewart Memorial Library. Dan
Guenther '66 will sign copies of Dodge
City Blues. Hors d'oeuvres
and cocktails will be served. Alumni and guests will gather in
the galleries, stacks and reading areas. The galleries house
works by Marvin Cone '14, Conger
Metcalf '36, Grant
Wood and 200 other artists.
All-Alumni Banquet
During this special
meal, the Alumni Award of Merit and the Distinguished Service
Award will be presented. This is the annual gathering of the
Coe Alumni Association and election of the Alumni Council officers.
The reunion classes will be recognized. President Phifer will
make remarks during the banquet. The Alumni Choir will perform
and will be directed by Jason Behrens
'03 and Alice
Sisco Lindsey '53 will accompany our singing.
Tours
- "1968: Twelve Volatile Months that Changed
the World" at the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library.
Set in the midst of turbulent times, this exhibit explores
life in a communist country and the Prague Spring, Czechoslovakia's
failed attempt at "socialism with a human face." Unarmed
students faced Soviet tanks marking the beginning of the end
of the Cold War. Transportation will depart from Coe at 12:45
and return at 2:45 p.m.
- Eby Fieldhouse Performance Arena and FieldTurf
at the Clark Field. View the latest upgrades to Coe's
athletic facilities.
- Main Campus. A tour of the Main Campus
will bring back fond memories. Share your stories and memories
with others as you walk the grounds. Student driven golf cars
will be available for both campus tours to give you a lift.
Worship Service
Rev. Alice Horton '68, pastor of Christ
the King Lutheran Church in Port Washington, Wis., will
officiate. A tribute will be made to reunion classmates
who have died since your last reunion. Sunday worship will
be at 9:30 a.m. in Daehler-Kitchin Auditorium. Alice
Sisco Lindsey '53 will accompany our
singing.
