Religion

The religion major at Coe includes courses devoted to the historical development of religion; courses concentrating upon detailed study of the Bible; courses reflecting the department's commitment to the open-minded study of all major religions, both Western (Judaism, Christianity, Islam) and Eastern (Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, Shinto), and courses devoted to current developments in the study and practice of religion.

Program Highlights

  • Small class sizes permit individualized attention and provide the opportunity for active participation in classroom discussion. Class sizes within the department vary, with most classes limited to twenty students and enrollment in upper-level courses is generally fewer than 15.
  • Students have the opportunity to study off-campus at a variety of locations including, India, Thailand, Northern Ireland and Mongolia.
