The philosophy major at Coe offers a broad range of courses in the history of Western philosophy and its major fields as well as the opportunity for specialization. A philosophy major encourages the development of both critical thinking and the communication skills. Many philosophy majors pursue higher degrees after graduation such as going on to law school or graduate school.
- Small class sizes permit individualized attention and provide the opportunity for active participation in classroom discussion. Class sizes within the department vary, with most classes limited to 20 students and enrollment in upper-level courses is generally fewer than 15.
- Students have the opportunity to study off-campus at a variety of locations including India, Thailand, Northern Ireland and Mongolia.
