Coe's History Department offers students both breadth and depth in its courses. Students may take generalized courses in Western Civilization and United States history as well as specialized courses in Central Europe (including the Balkans), Modern Russia, East Asia, China, Japan, Latin America, Ancient Greece and Rome, Medieval Renaissance and Reformation Europe, Recent America, United States intellectual, colonial, diplomatic, and women's history.
- The department offers students a unique opportunity at the undergraduate level to take a seminar with a department member at the Hoover Presidential Library.
- Students have to opportunity to complete an internship at a historic site, such as Brucemore in Cedar Rapids, in the Office of the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa, or in the Office of the United States Trustee for Region 12.
- Students will acquire skills including analytical reading, critical reasoning, organizing information, and synthesizing material which are easily applied to a variety of occupations and professions.
