Historical Studies

Students with a major other than History may choose Historical Studies as a collateral major. Students may take generalized courses in Western Civilization and United States history as well as other specialized courses.

Program Highlights:

  • The department offers students a unique opportunity at the undergraduate level to take a seminar with a department member at the Hoover Presidential Library.
  • Students have to opportunity to complete an internship at a historic site, such as Brucemore in Cedar Rapids, in the Office of the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa, or in the Office of the United States Trustee for Region 12.
  • Students will acquire skills including analytical reading, critical reasoning, organizing information, and synthesizing material.
