The American Studies major offers an exploration of American civilization in a structured, integrated manner and allows the freedom of choice desirable in this broadly interdepartmental major. Faculty from a variety of departments (including History, African American Studies, Art, English, Economics, Political Science, Sociology) participate in the program and teach and study aspects of American culture.
- All students who major in American Studies must take four required courses which are supplemented by seven additional courses from three areas (American History, American Culture, and American Social and Natural Sciences).
- Students may include in their program appropriate courses taken during the Washington Term (if they choose to attend the Washington Term).
The Integrative American Studies course is the capstone of the major.
