African-American Studies
The African American Studies interdisciplinary major offers three track options: Literature, History, and Sociology. The program offers opportunities for studying experiences and culture of African peoples in the Americas and of continental Africans. Offering a major and a minor, the program equips students to pursue a variety of careers and further academic opportunities in such areas as education, journalism, law, business, international affairs, government, communications, social work, and politics.
Program Highlights:
- Students may focus more pointedly on specific areas in literature or history or sociology or on special research topics.
- Independent-study and off-campus-study opportunities may be woven into students' concentration plans.
- Students may come to obtain more appreciation of diversity in human experiences by examining and studying selected cultural elements of the diasporic African world.
