What classes are you currently teaching?
Introduction to American Studies, Literature of the Civil Rights Era, African American Speculative Fiction
What activities or campus organizations are you actively involved with?
What makes Coe stand out from other schools?
What is your favorite class to teach and why?
I'm still relatively new at Coe, so I haven't taught any single course enough times to have a favorite. However, this is also indicative of something I appreciate as a professor at Coe, which is the opportunity to design a variety of courses in my areas of study. Having this flexibility, I hope, allows me to offer subjects students are interested in studying.
Who is playing on your iPod?
I have two iPod playlists: one contains jazz and is dominated by Blue Note artists of the 1950s-1960s. The music on this playlist remains pretty consistent. The other, is a mix of bands/artists like Radiohead, TV on the Radio, Santogold, Sufjan Stevens, and Vampire Weekend and is updated as I discover new music I enjoy.
What is your favorite Coe tradition?
I enjoy the opening convocation. It's a nice way to welcome the freshman class and their families to Coe. From the parade through the quad to the President's address, the convocation serves as an initiation to the college community which is nicely bookended for each student at their graduation ceremony.
