William D. Ford Federal
Direct Stafford Loan
General Information
Federal Direct Student loan borrowers who leave Coe College,
either by graduating, withdrawing, or failing to return for a
subsequent semester, are required by Federal Law (34 CFR Section
685.304) to complete exit counseling. The Registrar is not able
to release academic records for any student that has not met this
requirement. This requirement can be met by doing an individual
counseling session, group counseling session, or on-line at the
following website (it takes approximately 25 minute's):
http://www.dl.ed.gov
You will be asked a series of questions and, once electronically
completed, our office will be automatically notified by the Direct
Loan Servicing Center. If, while completing electronically,
you opt to print the checklist, you have an additional step –
you must send the checklist information to the
Coe College Financial Aid Office.
Visit www.dl.ed.gov
and click on "Exit Counseling." You must complete
the Direct Loan exit counseling prior to graduation. Your
official transcript cannot be released if you fail to complete
your exit counseling session. Note that if you have more
than one type of loan (Perkins, etc.), you may have more than
one exit counseling to complete (SEE OTHER
LINKS ON THE EXIT COUNSELING SITE).
Before you start, you will need the following information:
- A PIN number was issued when you completed the FAFSA (Free
Application for Federal Student Aid). If you have forgotten
your PIN, you may request it at www.pin.ed.gov.
- Your Social Security number
- Your driver's license number
- Names, addresses, telephone numbers, and employers for your
next of kin and/or parent
- Names, addresses, telephone numbers, and employers for two
references residing at different addresses
- Name, address, and telephone number of your expected employer
(if known)
- Coe's school code is 001854
| NOTE: Providing names and
information for your spouse, parent, next of kin, and references
does not obligate them to assist with repayment of your loan.
Regulations require that you provide this data so your loan
holder can locate you, if, in the future, they have an invalid
address or phone number. |
- The student loan calculator in this session will help you
calculate your estimated monthly payment.
- Loan Consolidation – As a graduating senior, consolidating
now may mean a lower interest later on. The interest rate adjusts
each July 1. By consolidating you can lock in a fixed rate.
For consolidation information, go to www.studentaid.ed.gov
and put consolidation in the search box. Direct loan consolidation
website is www.loanconsolidation.ed.gov.
There may or may not be benefits to consolidating, Check out
the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section of the loan consolidation
website for things to consider.
If you have any complaints regarding the servicing of your loans
in the future, you may contact the Student Loan Ombudsman's office.
They may be reached via phone, mail, or on the Internet. Their
toll free number is (877)557-2575. On the internet, you may contact
them through the following website:
