"Coe is a place where you can step outside of yourself and really examine who you are and what you value. Personal changes are welcomed and new experiences are encouraged. It's a great place to begin the next phase of your life."
What I look for in a student:
The students who thrive in the Coe environment are excited about learning and integrating themselves within the Coe community. They want to be challenged academically and work hard to achieve their goals. However, it is also about balance at Coe so I look for students who know how to enjoy themselves. I feel open-minded students get the most out of their collegiate experience.
What I like about my job:
I understand the uncertainty that comes along with choosing a college. My favorite aspect of being a counselor is that I am allowed to make personal connections with students and their families to help them find "The One." This is an exciting time in a young person's life and I am glad that I am able to make a difference!
Current Coe Committees:
Sustainability Committee, Phi Beta Kappa
Trips you've made with Coe:
I had the chance recently to accompany a May-term course on sustainability in the business world to Colorado. It was a great trip filled with the amazing terrain of Aspen to Ft. Collins along with chances to view the “green” movement take place in many top national businesses.
My hobbies:
Being active (tennis, squash, mountain biking, softball, volleyball, jogging, skiing, etc.), traveling (12 countries and counting), listing to new music, watching movies, reading, and spending time with family/friends!
Music:
I'm a lover of all music excluding country, sorry. I spend a lot of time listening to new music and trying to expand my taste. The music I listen to really depends on my mood.
Books:
I usually read two to four books at once. By the time I'm mid-book, I hear of another one to start into.
Favorite Coe Tradition:
I really enjoy new student orientation. It gives everyone a chance to see the entire incoming class for a few days and get accustomed to college life before it actually starts.
Cedar Rapids Favorites:
Eat: Tomaso's Pizzaria, Zedrich's Ceczh Resturant, Mt. Vernon Inn (Greek), El Super Burrito, and Thai Flavors
Museums: Art Museum, Czech Museum, Brucemore
Professional Sport:
I'm a big tennis fan. The physicality, mentality and strategy involved are just amazing. However, I watch a lot of college football and basketball. I'm getting more into soccer and squash.
