| No matter
what your areas of educational and professional interest, mastery
of writing is critical to communicate clearly. Coe College offers
unsurpassed opportunities for helping students develop their writing
skills.
The writing program helps students learn to communicate in their
chosen discipline and experience writing from the perspective
of many different disciplines and professors. Two majors are available,
writing and creative writing, supported by Coe's unique Writing-Across-the-Curriculum
program and a vibrant writing center.
Writing-Across-the-Curriculum
The Writing-Across-the-Curriculum
program involves 200 writing emphasis courses per year taught
in every department at Coe. Over 80% of Coe's faculty teach these
writing courses, ensuring that students learn to communicate effectively
within their discipline while gaining experience writing within
other fields of study. This program symbolizes Coe's commitment
to writing as an invaluable means for enhancing learning.
Writing Center
Coe's
Writing Center is the largest undergraduate writing center
in the United States, staffed by 70 undergraduates representing
virtually every major at Coe. The Writing Center provides assistance
on brainstorming, drafting, revising, editing, or just talking
about ideas. It is also an ideal place to enjoy fresh-roasted
coffee and the best tea from China.
Student Publications
Coe offers a wide variety of opportunities for students to publish
their writing. Examples include:
- The
Coe Review, a national literary magazine,
publishes fiction and poetry by writers from Coe and the rest
of the world, a poetry volume in the fall and fiction in the
spring.

Coe's fantasy class e-magazine.
- The Coe College Cosmos, an independent
weekly student newspaper that has been published since 1890,
provides practical, first-hand experience for any students interested
in journalism.
- The Pearl, a literary journal, publishes
