No
matter what your areas of educational and professional interest,
mastery of writing is critically important. Coe offers unsurpassed
opportunities for helping students develop their facility with
writing, editing, and publishing written texts.
Although few people have day jobs as poets or storytellers,
most managers, teachers, advertisers, administrators, journalists,
editors, lawyers, and other professionals recognize the value
of people who know how to use words effectively. Coe's writing
program enables our students to gain the knowledge and confidence
in their writing so they can gain personal enjoyment from writing
and also be successful in their academic or professional careers.
For students interested in a serious study of writing, Coe
offers two major:
- Creative Writing Major,
a degree plan which focuses primarily on poetry, fiction
or script writing.
- Writing Major,
a degree plan which focuses on non-fiction prose, which may
include journalism, professional writing, technical writing,
personal essay, and other creative non-fiction genres.
These writing majors are supported by the
college's unique Writing-Across-the-Curriculum program
and a vibrant Writing
Center.
