Academic Requirements

A teacher preparation physical education (K-12) concentration requires these courses to be licensed to teach:

  • Foundations of Physical Education
  • Physiology of Exercise
  • Organismal and Ecological Biology
  • Human Anatomy
  • Master Activity Class for Teachers
  • Motor Learning
  • Human Physiology
  • Kinesiology
  • Organization and Administration of Physical Education, Health, and Athletics
  • Methods of Teaching Secondary Physical Education
  • Methods of Elementary Physical Education and Health
  • First Aid and CPR
  • Measure and Evaluation in Physical Education and Health
  • Adaptive and Corrective Physical Education

The athletic coaching endorsement and health endorsement are additional teacher preparation programs available at Coe. A major in Athletic Training is also available. Students may apply to the Committee on Independent Study to do an interdisciplinary major in Sports Management.
