Professor
Sharon Kay Stang received her undergraduate and graduate degrees
in Piano Literature and Performance from the University of Iowa.
While there she was a piano student of Professors John Simms
and William Doppman and was a Piano Pedagogy student of Professor
Norma Cross. She currently serves as Coordinator of the Keyboard
Division and Director of Music Recruiting; she teaches piano
and the Piano Pedagogy and Literature sequence.
Professor Stang has been an active collaborator for recitals,
masterclasses, and auditions. She has toured the Midwest and
Asia as a member of the Kedron Consort, has toured Iowa with
the Coe Chamber Ensemble, and has toured as a piano soloist
with the Eastern Iowa Brass Band. In demand as an adjudicator,
she has judged numerous local and state festivals and competitions.
Prof. Stang is a member of Iowa Music Teachers Association and
has served as District President and Auditions Chair. She recently
completed four years as Music Teachers National Association Senior
Auditions Chair for the state of Iowa.
Piano students of Professor Stang have won or placed in countless
local, regional and national competitions. Among them are IMTA
District and State Auditions, Iowa MTNA Auditions, West Central
Division MTNA Auditions, regional orchestra concerto competitions
and the Chopin Foundation of the United States National Scholarship
Competition.
