Mathematics and Computer Science

Off-Campus Opportunities

A semester-long program at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory allows advanced students in the mathematical sciences to work alongside professional scientists as junior members of Oak Ridge research teams. Many Cedar Rapids business and industrial computer operations offer internship opportunities for practical application of computer science knowledge. We've also had an increasing number of students taking REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) positions suiting their career plans.

Beyond the Classroom:

  • Two computer science majors completed summer internships with Deere and Company in Moline, IL. Another spent a summer at Micro Medex, Inc., in Englewood, CO.
  • A Coe mathematics and economics major spent a summer on an internship with the Keller Graduate School of Management in Chicago.
  • A Coe mathematics major spent a summer on an R.E.U. at NASA analyzing changes in the Antarctic ice cap using satellite imagery.
  • Several Coe students are getting practical experience working at firms such as Rockwell Collins, Intermec, and MCI in the Cedar Rapids area.
