Location of Program Valenciennes, France
Valenciennes, a small city of about 43,000, is in northern France near the Belgian border. The town prides itself on its reputation for friendliness, and getting around the city is convenient and safe. The Valenciennes district combines industrial tradition and internationalization. Its appeal includes a vibrant economy and an attractive way of life. The area includes 6,000 acres of woods and huge stretches of smooth water used both for water sports and natural reserves. An additional attraction is found in numerous cultural, artistic, and sporting events. Forty-one percent of the population is under the age of 25.

Description of Program The University of Valenciennes has about 12,000 students and is a regional university. Business, accounting, international management and finance, and engineering are its most important programs. However, this is a complete university offering a full range of subjects. In the last few years, Coe students majoring in psychology, history, and art have taken classes at this university. Classes are taught in French, and French language courses for non-native speakers are also available as support courses.

Other Expenses Housing, board, and student or insurance fees at Valenciennes, passport/visa; travel to and from France; health insurance; textbooks; incidental expenses; all other debts incurred during the term or year.
Health Insurance Health insurance is required for students traveling abroad through Coe College programs. Check with your family health insurance plan to see if coverage is available for overseas study. The College carries insurance for Coe’s programs for medical evacuation and repatriation.
Travel to the Program Travel is the responsibility of the student.
Credit Transfer Transfer of credit is dependent upon approval by the College Registrar.
Housing Options The most recommended option is living in a university residence on the campus. Students may also choose to share a small apartment with other students or rent a room with a host family.
Board Food is available for purchase in campus cafeterias and in local restaurants in the town of Valenciennes. Students also have access to group cooking facilities in the residence hall.
Prerequisites/Eligibility Students at Coe must have 2.25 grade point average at the time of application.
Students must not be on social probation.
Students should be in their junior or senior year of study during the period of off-campus study.
Application Process The first step is to contact the on-campus advisor for the exchange program, and application will need to be made to the University of Valenciennes as well. In addition, contact the Director of Off-Campus Study for an application for participating in one of Coe’s off-campus exchange programs.
Deadlines Students should contact the Coe College coordinator, the French professor, during the fall semester of the year BEFORE the exchange would take place to express interest.
Formal application for permission to study off campus must be submitted at least six weeks before the end of the term just prior to the off-campus experience.
Deposit No deposits are required at Coe College for exchange programs. Arrangements must be made for payment of the tuition bill by the fifteenth of the month prior to departure for the program.
