Successful Students
Before attending Coe, Debra Ryun (biology), completed
an Associate of Arts degree at Kirkwood Community College, where
she received the Outstanding Science Student of the Year
award. She took Ecology of Aquatic Systems at the A.C.M.
Wilderness Field Station during the summer after her junior year.
During the fall semester of her senior year she interned with
an organization called Trees Forever and was elected Soil and
Water District Commissioner of Linn County, Iowa. After graduation,
she accepted a position with Trees Forever as Volunteer and Education
Coordinator.
Heather Daniels (biology) is a talented saxophonist and
biologist. She played in the Coe College Concert, Jazz, and Pep
bands and was selected to the 1994 Iowa College and University
All Star Band. A participant in the Coe College Honors Program,
she received the following academic honors: election to the Alpha
Lambda Delta Honor Fraternity, Mortar Board National Honor Society,
and Strata as well as being named JoAnne J. Trow Outstanding Sophomore.
She served on the pom pom squad, the Residential Board of Directors,
and as President of Coe-Greens (an environmental group). Her College
Honors project was a study of whale behavior, carried out at the
Boston Aquarium. She is the senior student service coordinator
for the School of Medicine and Public Health Graduate School,
Center for Neuroscience, University of Wisconsin.
